On their site, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration published helpful information on driving while under the influence of alcohol. The NHTSA states that drivers whose blood alcohol concentration has exceeded .08 g/Dl are considered impaired. During 2013, 31 percent of all motor vehicle accident fatalities in the U.S. involved a driver who was impaired because they consumed too much alcohol before taking to the road. Furthermore, drunk driving fatalities are particularly prevalent during night-time hours and on weekends. Data shows that fatal drunk driving accidents were almost four times more likely to occur at night than during the daytime in 2013.

Statistics revealed that in 2013, drivers who were between the ages of 21 and 24 were more likely to cause a fatal accident while under the influence of alcohol. For young drivers and drivers of all ages, it is extremely important to remember the dangers associated with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and prevent additional fatal crashes from happening.
